“Cultivate LOVE for your fellow man and you will no longer want to lock horns with him in futile combat. Love makes every man his brother’s keeper.”

Napoleon Hill thought so much of the importance of the Golden Rule that when World War I ended on November 11, 1918 with the signing of the Armistice, Hill said he got the idea to start his own magazine.

The first issue dated January 1919 was named Napoleon Hill’s Golden Rule Magazine. Napoleon Hill wrote an article which he named the Golden Rule: The PassKey to Achievement. He put emphasis on the fact that all business and personal relationships should be based on an understanding of the Golden Rule principle.

We have in our archives a lecture that Dr. Hill gave on the Golden Rule and he listed the many benefits of practicing the Golden Rule. One of the results of the use of the Golden Rule is that it creates harmony within each of us. It also helps develop friendships that can last a lifetime. The Golden Rule is also the sixteenth lesson in Napoleon Hill’s 1928 Law of Success. Hill even called the Golden Rule the apex of the pyramid on the Law of Success course.

Napoleon Hill was credited with discovering the Golden Rule once when he gave a talk. But, Hill stated that the Golden Rule had already been preached for over four thousand years.

The Golden Rule simply means to do unto others as you wish them to do to you. Hill explains that it is based on the eternal law through the operation of which we reap what we sow.

It is an absolute necessity to practice the Golden Rule in order to have permanent success.

I wish you the best at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

“It is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart. ~Mahatma Gandhi

Dear Readers:

Not so very long ago in nearby lands not so very far away lived three gentlemen who were soon to become brothers not by birth, but by heart. One extraordinary man traveled from Cambodia’s Killing Fields to find his new home in New York, another equally extraordinary man lived his youth and adult life in Canada, and our beyond extraordinary man hails from the southern United States. And, once, not so very long ago, these three Knights Errant, soon to be dubbed Brothers of the Soul, set out independently to make the world a better place. During travels in search of life’s meaning and the mystical keys to success, they journeyed to the magical Land of the Emerald Isle with the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center. Here they heard about and became acquainted with each other. Taylor and Tom were the first seekers who traveled in search of a success philosophy that would enrich their lives and the lives of others. Tim joined up on a later trip.

When Tim and Tom joined an excursion to Belle Isle located in Northern Ireland, they very soon recognized and embraced each other as like-minded Knights of the Sacred Success Principles. Tom introduced Taylor to Tim and three unlikely but future gallant Knights of Soulful Success came together for mastermind work. At their Success Roundtable they wrote their Code of Honor in a book entitled Adversity to Advantage. With the Past in place, the Present can now have a strong foothold.

Here begins today’s story.

Many glorious and knightly adventures together–such as a trip to Cambodia to help people in need–occurred as Tim wanted to return to his beloved homeland (as he previously promised) and deliver the good news of the Success Philosophy. This trip solidified the brotherhood of our three Knights and as time went on their bond only increased. “All for one and one for all,” became their mantra.

But, as life would have it, a problem closer to home was developing in New York. Tim’s son was dealing with a life threatening illness. He struggled tremendously with a serious health condition and had surgery to correct the problem. But, in time the surgery failed, and now in his twenties, Tim’s son needed immediate healing.

Help is hard to come by when it involves a great sacrifice and nowhere could Tim find the help and resources needed quickly to save his son’s life. He searched high and low for a compatible match for the new kidney that was his only hope. Calls to action were sent forth, people read and listened, but nothing happened. Years ago, Tim’s wife was able to donate her kidney to her son Tony, but in time that too failed. People continued to look everywhere, donor lists were created, and notices again went out in search of what seemed non-existent.

Today, life hangs on a very thin thread for Tim’s son, Tony, and time spent on dialysis continues to take his final measure of strength. “Where is Hope?” Tim asked over and over again. “Send hope,” Tim prayed. As if by a miracle, doing his part in seeking a solution with determination and persistence, a strange outcome occurred. Truth is truly stranger than fiction.

Feeling concerned about Tim’s problem, Taylor asked Tim what were the requirements for being a donor. Taylor next asked Tim the question, “Might I be a match for your son?” Tests were conducted in Tennessee initially, and it was very soon disclosed that Taylor was indeed a match. Decisions still need to be made and legal paperwork signed, but with the synchronistic meeting and ongoing friendship of Taylor, Tim, and Tom have given Tim’s son a new lease on life.

It is anticipated that surgery will be scheduled for this month. If and when accomplished, the world will be a better place because the story of the three Knights will continue to shine on and bless another living human being with a gift that is absolutely the most fitting example of living the Golden Rule. There is no better or more precious gift than the gift of a person’s self. This is a divinely inspired gift, and truly out of this world. What greater mission is there than to bring Heaven to Earth?

Thank you Taylor, Tim, and Tom for demonstrating to all of us how we can best live divinely inspired lives. May you all “live long and prosper.” Because of your combined mission you have definitely made the world a better place in which to live and THAT is the Good News!

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Kindly Consideration of Others
by Napoleon Hill

For more than four thousand years men have been preaching the Golden Rule as a suitable rule of conduct among men, but unfortunately the world has accepted the letter while totally missing the spirit of this Universal Injunction. We have accepted the Golden Rule philosophy merely as a sound rule of ethical conduct but we have failed to understand the law upon which it is based.

I have heard the Golden Rule quoted scores of times, but I do not recall having ever heard an explanation of the law upon which it is based, and not until recent years did I understand that law, from which I am led to believe that those who quoted it did not understand it.

The Golden Rule means, substantially, to do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you if your positions were reversed.

But why? What is the real reason for this kindly consideration of others?

The real reason is this:

There is an eternal law through the operation of which we reap that which we sow. When you select the rule of conduct by which you guide yourself in your transactions with others, you will be fair and just, very likely, if you know that you are setting into motion, by that selection, a power that will run its course for weal or woe in the lives of others, returning, finally, to help or to hinder you, according to its nature.

“Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap!”

It is your privilege to deal unjustly with others, but, if you understand the law upon which the Golden Rule is based, you must know that your unjust dealings will “come home to roost.”

The Golden Rule
by Tom Cunningham

Everyone has heard of The Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have done unto you. The challenge is applying it in our lives, on a daily basis, in everything we do.

An adaptation of The Golden Rule is to do unto others as they would have done unto them. We are all unique and what you would like people to do to you is often different than what other people want done unto them.

This perspective forces us to put more thought and effort into doing unto others by asking, thinking, and perhaps researching the person you want to help. Doing that will uncover how that specific person would like to be helped as opposed to how you might have served them.

In Matthew 7:12 we read “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” Let’s consider “in everything” when thinking of The Golden Rule. How about when you speak or write something in a nasty tone about someone you dislike? How about when you gossip? What benefit do you or others receive when you share your negative opinion about someone? The answer is that there is absolutely no benefit to you or the people you communicate with.

Who cares if you intensely dislike a politician? Keep that in your thoughts and wrestle with it yourself instead of sharing your totally unproductive and negative thoughts with others. Many things I have read on social media tell me more about the person themselves than the person they are hating on.

Napoleon Hill Is on the Air!: The Five Foundations for Success

by Napoleon Hill

In 1953, at the pinnacle of his career, beloved motivational speaker Napoleon Hill—whose classic Think and Grow Rich continues to inspire millions—distilled his lifetime work into a series of live radio broadcasts. In each one, Hill walked his listeners through one of the Five Foundations for Success—what he described as absolute musts connected to “practically all achievement that’s worth mentioning.”

Napoleon Hill Is on the Air! comprises those never-before-published transcripts in an engaging Q&A format. Together they provide deep analysis of the “Big Five” principles and how to apply them for maximum benefit in business and relationships. The transcripts also offer rich, off-the-cuff insights and inspirational stories derived from Hill’s years spent studying American icons, including Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Charles M. Schwab, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This remarkable book offers a unique perspective on Napoleon Hill’s groundbreaking principles of success—as practical and powerful today as when he first discovered them.

The Foundation has partnered with the Grand Harbor Press Division of Amazon to publish a number of previously unpublished radio and television broadcasts by Napoleon Hill. Called the “Napoleon Hill is On The Air” series, the first of the books is “The Five Foundations for Success.” It will be published on March 14 and is available for pre-order now on Amazon. It consists of radio broadcasts made by Dr. Hill in Jackson, Mississippi in 1953. In these broadcasts, he concentrated on what he considered to be the “Big 5” of his seventeen success principles. This powerful book also contains an introduction by Dr. Charles Johnson, Dr. Hill’s nephew, which is the only public pronouncement about his uncle that Dr. Johnson has ever made.

The Other Side of the Mind

by W. Clement Stone and Norma Lee Browning

The human mind today is undergoing the most exciting and intensive probing in the history of mankind. In this unusual and provocative book, W. Clement Stone, a hard-headed businessman, and Norma Lee Browning, a top reporter, combine forces to explore The Other Side of the Mind – the fascinating, often controversial world of mind phenomena. “Enough is known today about the capabilities of the brain to provide science with its greatest challenge,” writes Norma Lee Browning. “It is now evident that we are only scratching the surface of human potentialities. When the curtain of mystery is lifted from the last unexplored corner of the mind, there will be no limits to what the future may hold for shaping the destiny of mankind.” Here also is a bold challenge to each reader – a challenge to keep an open mind as you read about: -The strange psychic life of the Australian Aborigines. -The mystery of the fire-walkers of the Fiji Islands. -The yogis of India, who may hold the key which scientists everywhere are looking for to unlock the hidden reservoirs of human efficiency and energy. -The startling and significant research into mental telepathy that is being done by Soviet scientists of the highest caliber. -Extra-sensory perception and what the future holds for para-psychology. -The researches into hypnosis, cybernetics and ESB – electrical stimulation of the brain. -Lourdes, for whose cures medical science has no explanation. -The sensitives of mediums who claim to have special psychic powers and the honest appearing charlatans who prey upon the gullible. -How you can relate the facts in this book to your own life to develop and maintain your physical, mental, and moral well-being.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
